Project Status: Design
This project will reconstruct the multimodal sidepath along the west side of Belmont Avenue, between Montgomery Drive and Edgely Avenue. The existing sidewalk will be reconstructed as a wider shared use path with upgraded ADA ramps to accommodate people walking and biking. This will improve safety and comfort while traveling between the Wynnfield/Parkside neighborhoods and the cultural sites of Fairmount Park West, including Centennial Lake, the Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center, the Fairmount Park Horticultural Center, and the Mann Center for Performing Arts.
The project will expand the City of Philadelphia’s High-Quality Bike Network and is a designated high-priority bicycle connection as outlined in the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.
Vision Zero Traffic Safety Improvement
This section of Belmont Avenue is identified as part of Philadelphia’s High Injury Network, the 12% of city streets where 80% of severe traffic crashes occur. This project is part of the Department of Streets’ commitment to the City’s Vision Zero Program and our shared goal to program traffic safety improvements on every mile of the High Injury Network.
