Are you interested in pursuing a career in construction? Through the Rebuild initiative, the City’s Capital Programs Office (CPO) is now recruiting participants for the 2026 Ironworkers Academy. This paid ($17 an hour) training program will run from August 10, 2026, through September 4, 2026, and is offered in partnership with Ironworkers Local 401, Ironworkers Local 405, and PA CareerLink®.

This 4-week academy requires no prior construction experience and provides hands-on training designed to prepare participants to pursue careers as Ironworkers. Additional program details, including schedule, location, and expectations, will be shared during the mandatory information sessions. 

Attend one mandatory virtual information session 

To be eligible for the program, applicants must register for and attend one of the following virtual information sessions: 

Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. 

Friday, June 26, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. 

Registration is required to attend an information session. Program details and next steps in the application process will be shared with all information session attendees. 

About the program 

The Ironworkers Academy is part of the CPO’s efforts to connect Philadelphia residents to careers in the skilled trades. Participants receive practical instruction from experienced tradespeople and gain exposure to union career pathways in the construction industry.

Who qualifies? 

  • Applicants must meet the following requirements: 
  • Minimum age of 18  
  • Philadelphia residency  
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent  
  • Must have valid driver’s license   
  • Must own or have daily access to a vehicle 
  • Willingness to undergo a background check (justice-impacted individuals are strongly encouraged to apply)  
  • Ability to pass a drug screening  
  • Ability to engage in strenuous physical work  
  • Interest in a career in construction
