The next round of funding for the Neighborhood Economic Development Grant is open! The grant helps nonprofit organizations, including community development corporations, increase their funding capacity to create economic opportunities that revitalize the neighborhoods they serve.

Nonprofit organizations can apply for a proposed compensation of between $50,000 and $500,000 to fund commercial space for businesses providing goods and services accessible to low- and moderate-income residents, while increasing job creation. Eligible projects can be funded in the following four categories: planning, pre-development, development, and acquisition.

The application deadline is March 19, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Projects completed in 2025

In 2025, the Neighborhood Economic Development Grant Program supported the completion of seven projects across Philadelphia, and the total grant investment from the Department of Commerce was $1,925,000. Projects completed in 2025 included:

  • African Cultural Alliance of North America Inc. (ACANA) Africa Center (5434 Chester Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19143): Funds were used for pre- construction, including hiring a consultant and environmental remediation, to develop the Africa Center and its multi-use facilities. Awarded amount: $500,000. Total project amount: $20,544,000.
  • The Fallser Club Commercial Kitchen (3721 Midvale Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19129): Funds were used for a feasibility study with Strada Architecture LLC for a second-floor kitchen installation. Awarded amount: $50,000. Total project amount: $68,000.
  • The Olney Community Collaborative (5458 N. 5th St. Philadelphia, PA19120): Funds were used to acquire the site at 5458 N. 5th St. to create a commercial hub for small businesses and community services. Awarded amount: $400,000. Total project amount: $500,000.
  • Allegheny West Foundation Food Distribution Program (2208 W. Indiana Ave. Philadelphia, PA19132): Funds were used for the construction of a new food distribution center to provide infrastructure to support and grow the food distribution program, increase the number of families served, and address food insecurity in the community. Awarded amount: $350,000. Total project amount: $600,000.
  • Park to Broad Business Center (2825 W. Girard Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19130): Funds were used to renovate a former daycare into a business resource center. Awarded amount: $105,000. Total project amount: $710,528.
  • Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia Passyunk Hall Stabilization Acquisition (2514 S. 24th St. Philadelphia, PA 19145): Funds were used as gap funding for purchasing Passyunk Hall, a community and elder services space with tenants, and to add opportunities for pop-up vendor markets for Southeast Asian Market vendors. Awarded amount: $500,000. Total project amount: $1.9 million.
  • Tacony Community Development Corporation Torresdale Acquisition Plan (6800 Torresdale Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19135): Funds were used to develop a property acquisition plan to prepare for the purchase of a mixed-use commercial property on Tacony’s targeted commercial corridor. Awarded amount: $20,000. Total project amount: $35,000.

The proposal is not considered submitted until the “submit” button is pressed at the conclusion of the eContract Philly submission process. You should receive a confirmation email that your application was submitted.
