Philadelphia’s intercity bus station will re-open at 1001 Filbert Street in May 2026. The bus station, just half a block north of Market East, is an important transportation hub for Philadelphians and visitors. The efforts to re-open the bus station include cosmetic improvements to the building and security upgrades as well as renovations that make it a welcoming environment for travelers. The revitalization project is estimated to cost $2 million.

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Tom Fitzgerald reports on the passing of legislation that made this move possible:

[The Philadelphia Parking Authority] will provide 24-7 security, 16-hour daily custodial coverage, maintenance staff, and an on-site program manager under terms of an intergovernmental agreement with the city that is part of the legislation. It also will be responsible for enforcing rules, such as one that will require buses to bypass the heart of Chinatown.
