On Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., young people from across Philadelphia are invited to take part in an exciting launch event at The Oval. This special evening marks the official kickoff of #TouchGrassPhilly, a new initiative from Philadelphia Parks & Recreation aimed at inspiring youth creators to engage with and reclaim outdoor public spaces.
The kickoff will feature a Teen Takeover in collaboration with Beyond the Bars, highlighted by a Drop the Mic session. This performance-based event will provide an open platform for teens to showcase their voices through spoken word, music, and other creative expressions. It is designed to celebrate youth talent and bring attention to the powerful voices of Philadelphia’s young community.
What is #TouchGrassPhilly?
#TouchGrassPhilly is Philadelphia Parks & Recreation’s youth-influencer program that invites young people to connect with community, creativity, and green spaces on their own terms. The program is designed to make young people feel seen and heard in public parks while advancing Mayor Cherelle Parker’s vision for a safer, more connected Philadelphia.
Through #TouchGrassPhilly, the city aims to:
- Highlight youth voices as leaders and changemakers
- Promote youth-led anti-violence solutions and safe gathering spaces
- Foster a true sense of belonging in every neighborhood
- Encourage exploration and ownership of outdoor spaces
Who Will Be There?
The event will feature five youth creators who were selected to represent the #TouchGrassPhilly mission. These individuals are using their creativity, leadership, and influence to spark change and inspire their peers to reimagine public spaces.
Attendance is expected to range from 150 to 200 young people from across the city, making this a powerful opportunity for connection and community building. See more details about the event on Instagram.
