The City of Philadelphia Department of Streets Announces Resurfacing Work to Start on Packer Avenue and South 7th Street Monday, July 28th
Daytime road work will include temporary partial lane closures.
PHILADELPHIA – The Department of Streets announces resurfacing work will begin on two roadways in South Philadelphia.
- Packer Avenue between Front Street and Broad Street
- South 7th Street from Pattison Avenue to Oregon Avenue
Road work will occur during the daytime, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and include temporary partial lane closures. The Department asks everyone traveling near roadwork to slow down, pay attention, and follow all detours and directions.
Street resurfacing happens in multiple phases:
- Milling: Heating and removing the old top layer of asphalt.
- Utility adjustments: Additional detail work and preparation around utility accesses such as manhole covers.
- Paving: Installation of a new asphalt layer. In addition to a smoother more resilient surface the asphalt is shaped to direct water to nearby drainage.
- Line Striping: Painting new traffic marking such as crosswalks and lane lines.
Each phase is completed by different crews. Work schedules can be impacted by weather, especially rain or low temperatures, as well as crew and equipment availability.
