Have you ever thought about working for the City of Philadelphia but didn’t know where to begin? You’re not alone — and we’re here to help. Whether you’re a recent graduate, changing careers, or looking to make a difference in your community, the City’s Office of Human Resources (OHR) is making it easier than ever to learn about and apply for civil service jobs.

Learn about City careers — in your community

OHR is partnering with the Free Library of Philadelphia and other local organizations to host civil service career information tables at events across the city. These informal tabling sessions are a chance to:

  • Get answers to your questions about civil service careers
  • Understand how the civil service hiring process works
  • Learn about openings in administration, law enforcement, skilled trades, and more
  • Get help with the application process — computers are available on-site

These sessions are open to all and designed to make the path to public service clearer, more welcoming, and more accessible.

Meet the City’s Hiring Bus

We’re also excited to introduce the Hiring Bus — a mobile recruitment center that brings opportunities directly to the community. The bus is fully equipped with application stations and staffed by knowledgeable HR professionals who can walk you through available positions and help you apply on the spot.

You’ll find the Hiring Bus at select community events throughout the summer and beyond. It’s the perfect chance to connect with our team face-to-face, learn about open positions, and take the first step toward a City career — all in one visit.

Want the Hiring Bus to visit your community event? Submit a request today!

Hiring Bus features:

  • View current civil service openings
  • Get step-by-step application help
  • Apply for jobs directly from the bus
  • Ask questions and get real-time support from HR professionals

Why it matters

Civil service positions are based on merit, not connections — and they come with competitive pay, benefits, retirement plans, and most importantly, purpose. When you work for the City, you’re helping shape the future of Philadelphia.

Join us at our upcoming events — whether at a library info table or the Hiring Bus — and take the first step toward a fulfilling career in public service.
