In honor of Earth Day, city, state and federal officials celebrated 23 Philadelphia School District, independent, charter, private, and parochial schools for their green projects. As part of the Green Schools Program, each school was awarded up to $2,500 to create and enhance projects benefiting recycling and environmental sustainability for a total of $54,500.

The Green Schools Program represents a core part of Mayor Parker’s vision for high-quality education for Philadelphia students of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. It promotes environmental sustainability and aligns with the mayor’s commitment to a safer, cleaner, and greener city. It inspires great ideas and is proof that recycling and sustainability can be a part of our everyday life even in schools.

This program allows us to invest in our children and let them know we see you and believe in your ideas that you conceived for yourselves and future generations. By investing up to $2,500 in each school we are encouraging our students to be creative, innovative, and unique with projects that benefit recycling, the environment, and our city. The Green Schools Program inspires great ideas and is proof that recycling and sustainability can be a part of our everyday life even in schools.

Green Schools Program provides for educational opportunities for students to be environmental stewards who lead efforts not just in their schools, but they can take back what they learn by way of these projects and demonstrate sustainable practices in their homes and neighborhoods.
