On Friday, January 26, 2024, there was a police shooting at Mascher Street and Cambria Street in North Philadelphia. During the incident, Alexander Spencer was fatally shot and a PPD officer was struck in the leg.

Details in this incident are still emerging, which is typical of an ongoing investigation. CPOC is actively monitoring the investigation and reviewing relevant evidence related to this incident as we do with every PPD police shooting in Philadelphia.

PPD and DAO released surveillance footage showing this interaction. This is an important step in bringing the transparency that the community deserves. CPOC calls on the PPD and DAO to continue to release additional information and evidence as the investigation unfolds.

Alexander Spencer’s family and many in our community are mourning. We express our condolences to them at this difficult time. CPOC will continue to advocate for a fair and transparent examination of this incident.

We understand that the community may have questions about this tragic incident. CPOC will share information publicly when we can, and we welcome public feedback. Our next public meeting is Tuesday, February 6th at 6 pm on Zoom. Meeting details are available on CPOC’s webpage under the event section.
