The Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service (OCEVS) is recruiting for its Community Resource Corps (CRC) AmeriCorps Program. The CRC partners with City agencies so that CRC members are trained to conduct outreach and directly connect residents with anti-poverty resources. Members are unique in that they go that extra step to not only inform residents that anti-poverty resources and programs exist, but work to ensure that residents are successful in connecting to resources.

What CRC Members do

Current Community Resource Corps members have been essential in helping connect residents with agencies like the Philadelphia Water Department and PHLConnectED. Since the current CRC cohort began in fall 2022, CRC members have:

  • Prevented over 1000 water shutoffs,
  • Helped connect over 900 low-income residents to free or affordable internet service through ACP,
  • Initiated needs assessments for over 2,600 residents to determine resource needs with essential City and community-based services such as legal support, utility bills, and employment connections.

Benefits

Just as the Community Resource Corps’ members have worked hard to support Philadelphia’s residents, the Program also seeks to support its members in their professional and personal development. In this AmeriCorps program, CRC members receive:

  • Coaching from full-time staff supervisors,
  • Team building supports to maximize the benefits of joining a cohort-style program,
  • Training in equitable community outreach and resource connection,
  • And monthly professional and personal development training.

The Community Resource Corps staff works to prepare members for employment by evaluating their career goals at the beginning of their service and building relevant professional development opportunities that best support their growth. The most recent CRC cohort’s professional and personal development topics have ranged from data analysis to Narcan training, and from phone/text banking to LGBTQIA+ Fundamentals.

We welcome members who represent the many sides of Philadelphia

The Community Resource Corps welcomes AmeriCorps Members with diverse experiences, identities, and people impacted by mass incarceration and court-involved individuals. The CRC is seeking:

  • Activists and organizers in their own community,
  • People interested in making a difference and becoming a leader in their neighborhood,
  • People who commit to a full term of service, working a minimum of 27.5 hours between Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

All incoming members will begin, in-person with a pre-service orientation on October 2. Training and the majority of service will be in-person at various sites throughout the city.

Members will serve one of the following terms:

  • 10-month term, serving 1200 hours from October 2, 2023 to August 30, 2024
    6-month term, serving 675 hours from October 2, 2023 to April 12, 2024

The CRC will schedule interviews on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. The application deadline is 9 a.m. on August 11, 2023. Interested applicants with questions can contact the CRC team at CRC@phila.gov.
