The 2022-2023 Serve Philadelphia VISTA Corps members have almost finished their term of service! Last summer, our cohort took the AmeriCorps pledge to “get things done.” They spent the year working in various City departments on a variety of projects with one common goal: to fight the injustices of poverty.

Cristina Bermudez, the Financial Equity VISTA at the Office of Community Empowerment wrote, “I am currently working on recommendations for a financial empowerment resource page to enhance the Philadelphia website with tools for Philadelphia residents to make informed financial decisions. By making an integrated self-guided resource guide, I am building capacity in my project by giving individuals who are unable to access financial empowerment centers and services access to financial empowerment tools.”

The efforts of each member continues to uplift our communities well after their pledge has been fulfilled.

To celebrate their hard work, the Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service (OCEVS) will host the Lightning Talks Series. Lightning Talks are brief presentations by the VISTAs giving an overview of their projects, challenges, and accomplishments. This is a great way to learn how much our VISTA members are doing for the City government, and what a term of service actually looks like!
