PHILADELPHIA – The Passyunk Avenue Drawbridge between 26th and 61st Streets will have traffic restrictions in place during the evening on Wednesday, July 27, announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. The following temporary restrictions are scheduled to be in effect from approximately 10:00 PM on July 27 until 4:00 AM on July 28:

  • Westbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 26th Street.  The Platt Bridge (PA-291) is the nearest Schuylkill River crossing to the south.
  • Eastbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 61st Street. The Gray’s Ferry Avenue Bridge is the nearest Schuylkill River crossing to the north.

No detour will be posted for this short duration. This temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely make necessary repairs to the bridge.  Due to the nature of the project, the work must be done during nighttime hours to expedite the repairs and minimize the disruption to motorists.  Should work go more quickly than anticipated, the roadway will be reopened ahead of schedule.

All work will be completed, and traffic will be restored by 4:00 AM Thursday. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.  The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
