On September 3, School District of Philadelphia students kicked off the 2019-2020 school year. Members of the Mayor’s Office of Education team along with Mayor Kenney, Dr. Hite, School District of Philadelphia representatives, and the Board of Education members traveled around the city welcoming students back.

Here’s a look back on some of our favorite moments from the first day of school 2019.

1. Check out this video of Dr. Hite starting the school day early! Thank you to all District bus drivers and school staff for supporting our students all year long.

2. We love welcoming in each new school year. Here’s Mayor Kenney and Dr. Hite ringing in the new year at Robert Morris School!

3. Over at Locke, partners including members of the West Philadelphia Promise Neighborhood helped us welcome students back!

4. Community Schools and City partners also joined in with well wishes from afar. Thank you for for the shout out (and helping students learn about healthy lifestyles all year long) Get Healthy Philly!

5. Check out this tweet from one of our newest coordinators. Thank you, Ester for joining in the first day fun. Did you know? The Mayor’s Office of Education recently added 5 new Community Schools!

6. We loved seeing this shout out to McClure and we are grateful that this school is a Arts-Rich School Grant recipient. Thank you Picasso Project.

7. Community Schools students, including those at Cramp Elementary, started the year off right! With new backpacks. Thank you to our partner Cradles to Crayons.

8. Did you know? School District of Philadelphia students receive free breakfast all year long.

9. Speaking of meals – over at Fels High School, Board member Leticia Egea-Hinton joined Dr. Hite and students for lunch!

10. Your favorite moment! Share it with us on Twitter at @PHL_MOE. We love the first day of school and hearing from students, staff, families, and Philadelphians all year long.

Have a great school year, everyone!
