“We are dedicated to our kids’ education. We want the best education in the world for them.”

That’s why Greg and Paul Yorgey-Girdy enrolled their 4-year-old sons Xander and Trevor in PHLpreK at Children’s Playhouse – Whitman.

Greg and Paul say what they want from PHLpreK is to give their sons “a heads up” — exactly what the City’s free, quality pre-K program provides by preparing students for a life full of learning.

“Education is the key,” said Greg adding that Mayor Kenney has “put forward something that helps people.” He’s seen the proof that PHLpreK is good for the City’s future!

At Children’s Playhouse, Xander and Trevor love singing their ABCs, learning numbers, and more. They’re in two different classrooms for even greater individual growth, per the family’s request. And they’re both flourishing, making friends, and learning.

PHLpreK allows Xander and Trevor to interact with lots of children, learning about different religions, cultures, and families.

“Our family is diverse, we’re mixed race, and our kids are mixed race. Difference is important to us and it’s beautiful.”

“My kids come from a two-dad family and we tell them that there are all different kinds of families,” siad Greg. “It was important to us that we choose a pre-K center that flourishes in diversity.”

That’s exactly what they’ve found at Children’s Playhouse – Whitman.

From the first time they met Damaris, the center’s pre-K director, Greg knew it was a great fit. Years ago their older daughter Bella, who is now 8, attended summer care at the center, and the family was excited that PHLpreK meant the younger children could also go to Children’s Playhouse.

“Helping kids get a leg up on something is really important to us,” said Greg. “We have so many kids because we’re doing everything in our power to make their lives better.”

PHLpreK helps make that dream possible for this family.
