PHILADELPHIA – Today, the City of Philadelphia released an action guide for residents regarding the Trump administration’s family separation and detention policies. The action guide provides facts on how the policies affect immigrant families, as well as ways Philadelphians can take action in support of families who have been separated or detained at the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Criminalizing migrant parents seeking safety and refuge for their families is cruel,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “Our communities are safer and stronger when parents are able to care for their children. I encourage Philadelphians who feel strongly about standing up for immigrant communities to review the action guide and learn what they can do to get involved.”
“In order to help our residents, including our immigrant community, understand complex immigration issues, and inform them on ways they can take action in response to Federal policies, the Office of Immigrant Affairs has also updated the Immigration Action Guide,” said Miriam Enriquez, Director for the Office of Immigrant Affairs. “It covers topics such as: travel ban, sanctuary cities litigation, DACA, TPS and our most recent update on Family Separation. Things are happening very quickly; issues are constantly changing as we saw last week with the travel ban ruling. With so much information out there, we want our residents to have updated facts and resources, and ways individuals can take action.”
To help residents understand complex issues and ways they can take action in response to Federal policies the City of Philadelphia creates action guides. These tools include facts, resources, and ways individuals can take action on a specific issue. To date the City has created action guides on gun control policies, immigration policies, and LGBTQ protections to name a few. View all action guides here.
