In early June 2018, City Council approved the first round of sites for Rebuild! Here’s what that means and why that’s important.
What is Rebuild?
Rebuild is the City’s program to improve parks, rec centers, playgrounds, and libraries across Philly’s neighborhoods. Most sites will be funded through bonds paid for by the Philadelphia Beverage Tax.
It has three primary goals:
- Revitalizing parks, rec centers, playgrounds, and libraries.
- Empowering and engaging with communities.
- Providing economic opportunity for all Philadelphians.
Which sites were selected?
City Council and Rebuild staff identified 64 sites across the city to receive improvements in the first round of projects. You can see the full list of sites on Rebuild’s site or at the bottom of this blog.
Will there be more Rebuild sites in the future?
Yes! Each year, Rebuild and City Council will work together to choose more sites to include in the program.
How were sites selected?
Rebuild used data about Philadelphia neighborhoods, information from other City departments, and input from City Council to propose the first list of sites.
When will the projects start?
The other Rebuild projects starting this year will be announced soon.
Most Rebuild projects will be funded with the help of the Philadelphia Beverage Tax and can begin after the tax has been upheld by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
