PHILADELPHIA – The Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (oTIS) announced today that restriping and safety improvements are scheduled to begin on Monday, May 21 for the Market JFK Vision Zero Pilot Project. Restriping and installation of flexible delineator posts and signage are expected to be completed within two weeks, weather permitting. Work will include temporary, short term lane closures and parking restrictions for pavement striping, installation of flexible delineator posts, and signage.

The restriping and flexible delineator post work will occur during overnight hours. The public should expect lane closures and parking restrictions on Market Street and JFK Boulevard from 15th – 20th Streets. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained through each intersection.

The Market/JFK Vision Zero Project will run for up to nine months. The pilot project will test an alternate roadway configuration between 15th and 20th Streets on both Market Street and JFK Boulevard and includes parking protected bike lanes.

To reduce speeding and weaving, the pilot project will test re-configuring the roadway from four traffic lanes to three. The project will include significant pedestrian safety improvements, such as shorter crossing distances and painted pedestrian areas defined by flexible delineator posts.

The pilot will also include parking protected bike lanes and new turn lanes on both JFK Boulevard and Market Streets (see map). These improvements will help define where people driving, walking, and bicycling should be while using the roadway.
