Welcoming Week honors the contributions of immigrant people and recognizes that our communities are stronger and more prosperous when we are welcoming. For over seven years, Philadelphia has shown its commitment to this national cause by coordinating events throughout the city.
For 2023, the Office of Immigrant Affairs (OIA) and its partners are curating events that embody the theme of “Destination Belonging.” More people than ever are on the move, displaced by climate change and conflict and seeking opportunity and mobility. However, as migration reshapes communities, many places aren’t prepared to create welcoming spaces.
OIA believes that being welcoming is more than being friendly, tolerant, and peaceful. A community needs intentional and inclusive policies, practices, and norms that enable all residents to live and contribute fully. Welcoming Week helps communities create a thriving environment for all.
Join us at LOVE Park for food, fun, and entertainment celebrating Asian cultures and communities.
The festival will showcase the richness of Asian culture through food, music, and history. It will also highlight the diversity within the Asian continent.
Feria del Barrio is an annual outdoor festival that promotes the work of community organizations. It provides a space for artists to share their creativity and invites the community to come together in celebration of Latino culture.
This event will take place on North Fifth Street between Huntingdon and Somerset Streets.
Follow Little Amal—a 12-foot puppet of a Syrian refugee girl and global symbol of human rights—on a journey down the Parkway to retrieve her heart-shaped necklace. Attendees will receive paper heart necklaces and seed paper to share.
This event will start outside of the Rodin Museum and end at LOVE Park.
This multilingual festival will invite residents to connect through their culinary traditions. This includes American regional food traditions, nutrition practices, and the culinary culture of Philadelphia.
The event will include storytelling through food, performances, games, and more.
