Supporting the City's first responders during public health emergencies and citywide special events.
The Philadelphia Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a group of more than 7,000 volunteers who serve the city during public health emergencies and large-scale events. This unit is part of the national MRC program, which is run through the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) within the Department of Health and Human Services.
The Medical Reserve Corps is comprised of both medical and non-medical volunteers, so you do not need to have a medical background to enroll in the Philadelphia MRC. The Department of Public Health trains the Philadelphia MRC and coordinates its response in times of need. Volunteers may be deployed during major emergencies, such as natural disasters, as well as events like marathon races. All volunteers are encouraged to participate in at least one training, exercise, or deployment per year.
Members may also choose to support other community-based MRC units in need in other areas of the state or country, as many did during hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Ian.

Anyone 18 years of age or older may register to become a volunteer online using www.serv.pa.gov. After registering, all volunteers will undergo a standard background check and once they’ve been cleared volunteers will be accepted into the unit.
Following their acceptance, they will either be invited to attend an in-person orientation session or asked to view the virtual volunteer orientation video. Volunteers will then be eligible to receive information about upcoming trainings and will be contacted for future deployment opportunities.
