The 52nd Street commercial corridor, a historic and cultural hub in West Philadelphia, is home to vibrant local businesses and a strong community presence.
SEPTA Route 52 runs through the corridor. It's one of the highest ridership bus routes in the city and a priority corridor in the Philadelphia Transit Plan. As part of the High Injury Network, the corridor faces significant traffic safety challenges.
This project is a partnership between the City, the Enterprise Center, and community stakeholders. It aims to create a safer, cleaner, and greener corridor for all.

A study is conducted to identify transit speed and reliability issues on the Route 52 along 52nd Street from Parkside Avenue to Baltimore Avenue. This includes the 52nd Street commercial corridor from Pine to Arch streets. Design recommendations are made to improve bus service on the Route 52.
Work begins to understand traffic safety and business operations issues on the 52nd Street commercial corridor.
Community engagement begins. Businesses and neighbors are asked for feedback on traffic safety issues and potential design tools via an online survey, pop-up events, and door-to-door canvassing. A walk audit is conducted with stakeholders and input is gathered from transit riders, business owners, and people who live near or visit the corridor.
A draft conceptual design plan for the 52nd Street commercial corridor is developed based on analysis and community feedback. The draft plan is shared for feedback from the public and from technical partners (e.g., SEPTA, PennDOT).
The draft conceptual design plan is revised based on feedback from technical partners and community members.
