The Philadelphia Fire Department has been awarded a $2.6 million federal grant to provide its members with fireground survival and mayday training. This type of training was specifically recommended by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in its report on the 2014 line-of-duty death of Lt. Joyce Craig. Commissioner Thiel will discuss the grant on Thursday at a demonstration of fireground survival techniques.

The funding comes from FEMA through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
