Safe Routes Philly is bringing back their Spring Training Season! Last year, ten schools stepped up to the challenge, leading to Philadelphia’s largest Bike, Walk, and Roll to School Day yet. This year, the Safe Routes Philly team is excited to welcome back past participating schools and expand this opportunity to more schools across Philly.
What is Safe Routes Spring Training?
Safe Routes Spring Training is a month-long challenge to encourage schools to organize a walking school bus or bike bus. Walking and biking school buses are safe, sustainable, and fun ways to encourage families to choose alternatives to driving to get their students to school. Spring Training will start on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, and end on Friday, May 1, 2026. Participating schools will be ready to go for National Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
For participating schools, each must identify one adult to be the school’s “Coach.” The Coach’s role includes meeting once with the Safe Routes Philly team in March, as well as tracking the number of students participating each week. Parents, school staff, neighbors, and community members are eligible to be Coaches.
