PHILADELPHIA — The Kickback Impact, the community-driven organization founded by music executive, humanitarian and cultural visionary Mont Brown, in partnership with the City of Philadelphia and its Ring It On! initiative for Americas’ 250th anniversary, is proud to announce the launch of Sing That Jawn, a groundbreaking citywide high school vocal competition designed to celebrate Philadelphia’s youth, amplify their voices, and connect them directly to the heart of the music industry.
More than a singing contest, Sing That Jawn is a movement, one that invests in arts education, builds pathways to professional opportunities, and honors the legendary musical legacy of America’s birthplace, Philadelphia. Through school-based auditions, citywide showcases, mentorship from industry leaders, and a professionally produced grand finale, the program will spotlight the next generation of Philadelphia talent while empowering them with resources, exposure, and tangible career opportunities.
“Philadelphia has always been a city of resilience, creativity, and powerful voices. Sing That Jawn is a testament to my commitment to investing in our youth, amplifying their talents, and ensuring they have the opportunities to shine on the world stage,“ said Mayor Cherelle L. Parker. “As we enter America’s 250th birthyear, this initiative not only celebrates the next generation of Philadelphia’s artists but also builds a future where emerging voices are heard, valued, and empowered to dream big in America’s birthplace.”
Sing That Jawn Overview

Why It Matters
Philadelphia has always been a city of powerful voices, from soul legends to modern icons. Sing That Jawn gives young artists more than just a microphone; it gives them a moment, a dream, and a door into an industry that can feel out of reach. This initiative is a statement of equity, opportunity, and belief in the transformative power of music.
“The power of the arts to inspire, uplift, and create opportunities for our youth,” said Val Gal, Chief Cultural Officer for the City of Philadelphia. “This Ring It On! initiative not only celebrates the incredible talent of our young people but also reinforces the vital role that arts and culture play in shaping a vibrant, equitable, and thriving city.”
“Education is the foundation upon which we build our future, and Sing That Jawn is a powerful reminder of the transformative role the arts play in shaping young minds. As Philadelphia celebrates America’s 250th anniversary, we are empowering the next generation to lead, inspire, and carry forward the legacy of excellence that defines our city,” said Dr. Tony Watlington, Superintendent, School District of Philadelphia.
“The Kickback is more than an event, it’s a movement. Sing That Jawn is about giving our young people not just a stage, but a real shot at their dreams,” Mont Brown, founder of The Kickback Impact.
