The Capital Program Office is pleased to announce that Phase 1 of renovations at Christy Recreation Center has reached substantial completion, marking a significant step in the multi-phase improvement of this vital Southwest Philadelphia community asset. Phase 1 represents an investment of $4.2 million toward creating safer, more accessible, and more engaging space for West Philadelphia residents.
Building Upgrades
Phase 1 improvements to the main building include:
- Installation of new window and door assemblies for the building and office
- Office reconfiguration to improve functionality
- Essential plumbing repairs in the office area
- Exterior painting and upgraded exterior lighting
These enhancements strengthen building performance and create a more welcoming environment for staff and visitors.
Site and Outdoor Improvements
Several major exterior renovations were completed as part of Phase 1:
- Replacement of existing tennis courts with basketball courts
- Conversion of the former basketball courts into an outdoor play area
- Modifications to site entrances and walkways to ensure ADA-compliant vehicular and pedestrian access
- Installation of a new spray area near the pool zone,
- Landscaping upgrades and new site furnishings
- Construction of a subsurface modular stormwater infiltration basin
Phase 1 also included preparation of the north site area to support future Phase 2 development. More to come soon!
