PHILADELPHIA – City departments will be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28, 2025, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. There will be no trash and recycling collections on both days. The Department of Sanitation will resume collections on Saturday, November 29, with Thursday’s materials picked up on Saturday and Friday’s materials picked up on Sunday, November 30.

In support of Mayor Parker’s vision to make Philadelphia the safest, cleanest, and greenest big city in the nation, Sanitation Commissioner Crystal Jacobs Shipman reminds residents trash and recycling collections should be set out between 5 p.m. the night before collections and 7 a.m. the day of collections as per the City’s sanitation regulations.

Twice Weekly Trash Collections
Additionally, there is no second trash collection this week. Neighborhoods that normally receive a second trash collection during the week have one pickup during City-observed holiday weeks. Residents that usually get a second pickup, must plan ahead and make the most efficient use of their only collection day.
