Design Updates
Based on your feedback, we have created a design for the Chinatown Stitch! It includes a park on the cap and Vine Street improvements.

Park Design
The park design uplifts the culture of Chinatown. It creates a vibrant green space for play, relaxation, and different types of events. It includes a lawn, pavilion, terraces, playground, plaza, gardens, walking paths, and a promenade. Park spaces can be used for big events like markets and festivals, and everyday gatherings with friends and families.

Vine Street Traffic Safety
We heard that the community is most concerned with roadway safety around the cap area. Community feedback prioritized reducing aggressive driving and creating safer bike lanes. People also wanted safety for people walking and shorter crossings across Vine Street.

The new design will make local Vine Street two lanes in each direction. There will be wider sidewalks and new crosswalks. There will also be separated bike lanes and speed cushions. All these changes will make Vine Street safer for everyone who uses it.
The community preferred that Vine Street become one lane eastbound. PennDOT would not approve the change. Vine Street is an alternate route for the expressway, and PennDOT says it needs to stay at least two lanes.

Pedestrian Bridge
Based on community feedback, we learned that people want a pedestrian bridge at 9th Street. Right now, the pedestrian bridge is on hold so we can focus on the park and Vine Street while we look for new construction funding. As soon as we find a way to pay for and maintain a pedestrian bridge, we will move the design forward.

We want to hear from you.
