PHILADELPHIA – For the third consecutive year, the City of Philadelphia, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), and the Québec Government Office in New York hosted the Smart and Sustainable Mobility Showcase – aiming to foster collaboration between public agencies and private innovators, laying the groundwork for future investments that benefit communities, create jobs, and accelerate the transition to sustainable urban mobility.

“The City of Philadelphia is proud to partner with Québec Government and SEPTA to host the third Smart & Sustainable Mobility Showcase today at the Navy Yard business campus,” said Michael Carroll, Deputy Managing Director, Transportation and Infrastructure, City of Philadelphia. “This is truly a unique exhibition and conference where Québécois transportation companies can showcase products to our local market and spur investment and job creation in the region. The goal is to bolster connections and partnerships that can ultimately bring cutting edge mobility options and innovative solutions to our local communities.”

Hosted for the second time by the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) at the historic Navy Yard in South Philadelphia, this year’s event welcomes a new partner: the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Aviation. This annual showcase is free and open to industry professionals and transportation enthusiasts.

“We are proud to be back in Philadelphia for the third edition of the Smart and Sustainable Mobility Showcase, alongside our valued partners in the region,” said David Brulotte, Québec Government’s Delegate General in New York. “This event reflects Québec’s commitment to working hand in hand with regional actors—public and private—to advance innovation and sustainable mobility. Thanks to this platform, we’ve already seen concrete success stories emerge, with Québec companies setting up operations and creating jobs right here in the U.S. Together, we’re building strong, forward-looking partnerships that deliver real impact on both sides of the border.”

This year’s edition featured over 20 cutting-edge companies from Québec, Canada, presenting the latest innovations in transportation, mobility and climate-friendly technologies. For the first time, City of Philadelphia will also display vehicles from its municipal fleet, alongside SEPTA and the City’s Department of Aviation.

Attendees were presented with opportunities to see electric and hydrogen transit buses, micromobility options, charging infrastructure and digital tools, all designed to reduce emissions and support the Philadelphia region’s climate objectives. The event also spotlighted technology companies working in artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and safety solutions – essential tools for fleet managers and transit authorities navigating the evolving mobility landscape.

“We are honored to continue our valued partnership with the City of Philadelphia and the Québec Government Office in New York as this showcase evolves into a full-scale conference,” said Scott A. Sauer, Interim General Manager, SEPTA. “By fostering dialogue around best practices and transit operations, we are advancing innovative, efficient solutions that strengthen our regional networks and ensure long-term resilience. The support from our peers and partners, both near and far, helps us provide impactful services to our riders and pursue our mission in a resource-conscious manner.”

The 2025 showcase featured keynote speeches from distinguished industry experts on topics including how more efficient, sustainable, and resilient fleets while balancing operational demands and budget constraints, and effects of trade and trade policy on manufacturers’ bottom line and how international trade, and domestic investment affect regional growth and economic competitiveness.

The event included two roundtable sessions. The roundtable ‘Green Campuses: Lessons Learned and Opportunities to Seize’ joined Pennsylvania-based universities and industry experts to discuss decarbonization efforts on university campuses and innovative private-sector solutions from building retrofitting to charging stations. The roundtable ‘Revolutionizing Transit Operations: Emerging Technologies for Fleet Maintenance and Efficiency’ brought together transit agencies, industry professionals, and engineers to explore opportunities and challenges in fleet operation.

“Innovation is at the heart of what we do here at the Navy Yard, and we’ve spent the past 25 years transforming this former naval base into a dynamic campus that cultivates cutting-edge businesses and technologies,” said Kate McNamara, Executive Vice President of the Navy Yard for PIDC. “We’re proud to host the Smart & Sustainable Mobility Showcase here at the Navy Yard for the second year.”

The Navy Yard is celebrating 25 years of driving job growth and development in June 2025.
