The Citizens Police Oversight Commission (CPOC) has recently launched a community-police mediation program. This program allows Philadelphia police officers and community members to participate in conflict mediation following a citizen complaint against certain police misconduct (verbal abuse and lack of service incidents). If both the accused police officer and the complainant wish to participate in mediation, an experienced neutral third-party mediator will facilitate a dialogue between the two parties with the goal of reaching a satisfactory resolution.
CPOC hopes that this new mediation program will help to build greater levels of trust and satisfaction between the Philadelphia Police Department and the citizens of Philadelphia. As such, CPOC is working closely with Temple University’s Center for Conflict and Media Impact to capture a wide-ranging landscape of data surrounding various aspects of this program.
Currently, we are interested in gaining a better understanding of the current perceptions, thoughts, and feedback from a sample of community stakeholders as our mediation program begins to accept cases. We would like to invite you to fill out this very brief survey that captures your thoughts surrounding community-police mediation. To access the brief survey, please follow this link*:

The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete. Additionally, you can visit our police complaint mediation program webpage here. If you would like any further information, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact mediation@phila.gov or tricia.jones@temple.edu.
