WHAT: Fire Cadet Class 196 – Spirit Run & Skills Demo

WHO: The 121 cadets of Class 196. These EMT-certified firefighters — who include a 60-year-old retired postal worker, a three-time graduate of the Fire Academy, and a woman whose PFD legacy dates back more than a century — will enable the department to begin reopening fire/EMS companies closed during the Recession. WHEN & WHERE:

SUNDAY, Nov. 10 at 8 a.m.: Spirit Run from Camden over the Ben Franklin Bridge to Independence Hall, with each cadet carrying a U.S. flag.

SUNDAY, Nov. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m.: Family Day at the Fire Academy, where the cadets will demonstrate the life-saving skills they’ve learned over the past nine months — such as vehicle extrication, hose work and ladder climbing.

The Spirit Run and Family Day are traditional pre-graduation activities for each firefighter class. The cadets of Class 196 graduate on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. at Aspira Education Campus, 6301 N. 2nd St. (formerly Cardinal Dougherty High School)
