Mayor's Office on Information Management
- The Mayor's Office of Information Services (MOIS) works in partnership with City agencies to deploy information systems that support and enhance City government operations. MOIS provides these systems through a secure, networked, and state-of-the-art computer architecture maintained by skilled information systems professionals. MOIS coordinates the City's Information Technology activities by providing centralized planning, information systems standards, project management, and computer training and support.
MOIS operates the City's Central Data Center, the City network (CityNet), the Computer Training Center and the Computer Operations Support Center.
- Agency History
- The computer operations of the City originated in the Data Processing Unit (later entitled the Management Information Services Bureau) of the Office of the Director of Finance. This unit was transferred first to the Managing Director's Office and then to the Office of the Mayor in approximately 1983. While in the Mayor's office, the bureau was initially entitled the Mayor's Office on Information Management (MOIM). On 11 June 1986, by Executive Order 8-86, Mayor W. Wilson Goode reconstituted the office as the Philadelphia Computing Center. In September 1993, by Executive Order 11-93, the name was changed again to the Mayor's Office of Information Services (MOIS). The Chief Information Officer is appointed by the Mayor and is responsible for the Offices operations.
