Agency Function
- The function of the Board is to hear and decide upon appeals for exceptions to zoning ordinance provisions and to authorize such variances if not contrary to the public interest.
- Agency History
- The Board was created by an ordinance of August 10, 1933, and composed of five mayoral appointees. Upon the adoption of the City Charter of 1951 the Board was made a departmental board of the Department of Licenses and Inspections, and the Department's Commissioner was added to it.
