Fairmount Water Works

The Fairmount Water Works fosters stewardship of our shared water resources by encouraging informed decisions about the use of land and water. We educate citizens about Philadelphia’s urban watershed – its past, present and future – and collaborate with partners to instill an appreciation for the connections between daily life and the natural environment. For more information on our story, please visit our official web site.

The Water Works hosts a range of activities from regularly scheduled tours to family-friendly Pop-Up activities and interactive exhibits.

School Programs

Since the opening of the Fairmount Water Works, tens of thousands of teachers and students have visited and participated in our unique programs. We teach about the process of cleaning drinking water and protecting the health of our urban watersheds through science, technology, engineering, art & architecture and math (STEM). We have designed programs that are suitable for all grades and that meet both Pennsylvania and New Jersey educational standards.

Download program descriptions or visit our Education Web Page for complete information, including request forms.

The Water Works also offers summer programs, volunteer opportunities, and programs for university students. Please visit our Education Web Page for the most up to date information on these programs.
