Philadelphia City Scholarship Program

Encouraging Philadelphia students to pursue higher education by providing $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors.

Due to budget cuts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the City is no longer accepting new applications for the Philadelphia City Scholarship.

The Philadelphia City Scholarship was created in 1959 to support students who chose to stay in the Philadelphia area. The scholarship was an investment in the city's future talent and leadership. The City is proud to have supported more than 3,000 students through the scholarship.

The City now funds the Octavius Catto Scholarship which provides funding for first-time, full-time students at the Community College of Philadelphia. Through this initiative, we hope to provide Philadelphia students with a path to quality jobs and financial success.

The City is no longer accepting applications.

Current recipients of the Philadelphia City Scholarship will still receive payments until the end of their fourth year of a Bachelor’s program. To continue receiving the scholarship, students must maintain a 2.1 grade point average at a Bachelor’s program in one of these counties:

  • Bucks County
  • Chester County
  • Delaware County
  • Montgomery County
  • Philadelphia County
