DEPUTY RECREATION COMMISSIONER


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is managerial level recreation work directing the Programs division of the Recreation Department. The employee in this class is responsible for recreation program development and implementation and for directing departmental response to public demand for expanded and innovative recreation programs and services. Work includes establishing goals and objectives for the division and participating in the formulation and implementation of department policy. Establishing, maintaining and improving relationships with employees, community groups, the business community, other city officials, contractors and the general public are important aspects of the work.

The employee reports to the Recreation Commissioner.

(The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for this class will be reviewed based on training and experience requirements as approved on 2/1995.)
  1. EDUCATION:
    Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university.

    AND

  2. GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
    Eight years of administrative recreation experience.

    AND

  3. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:
    Four years of management level experience directing, through subordinate supervisors, a major segment of the City's overall recreation program.

Or any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel Department that has included the education and specific experience described above.
