PLAYGROUND ATTENDANT
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is part-time recreation work assisting higher level recreation leaders in the direction of playground activities.
Work is performed under the close supervision of a higher level recreation supervisor. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with instructions and established routines. Employees in this class provide recreation services for participants at one of the city's recreation facilities. Activities may include some chance of injury and require intermittent light physical effort.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
- Supervises low organized games and outdoor free play; maintains order and monitors activity to prevent accidents and to prevent injuries; may dispense equipment and supplies.
- Enforces playground regulations; watches facilities to prevent vandalism.
- Makes minor repairs to equipment; performs general cleaning on facilities and grounds.
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
ABILITY TO:
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, the public, community groups and hostile persons.
- understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- learn techniques of recreation leadership.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
(The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests.)
- Education equivalent to completion of the eighth school grade.
- One year of playground experience.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to meet the physical and medical standards approved for this class.
