POLICE INSPECTOR


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is responsible supervisory technical police work in commanding a division of the Police Department, or assisting in commanding the park guard.

An employee in this class has administrative and supervisory responsibility for personnel and equipment assigned to major specific geographical areas or specialized police functions. The employee in this class is directly responsible for the effectiveness of police service given by his command. Work is performed with considerable independence within the framework of departmental rules and regulations. Instructions are received at periodic meetings with supervisors and through oral and written orders. Supervision is received through conference, evaluation of reports submitted and observation of results obtained.
