POLICE CORPORAL


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is law enforcement work supervising on an assigned shift a small group of uniformed and civilian personnel in the activities of a specialized police unit or of the operations office of a police district, and in the processing and maintenance of police records. Contact with law enforcement officials and the public is a significant aspect of the work.

Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level police officer. Assignments require the use of evaluative thinking and are carried out in accordance with standard police practices and general work instructions. An employee in this class participates with others in the efficient operation of an assigned organizational unit. Work involves conditions which can be only partially controlled.
