DIRECTOR, ADDICTIVE DISEASE TREATMENT PROGRAM
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is administrative social work in the field of addictive disease treatment developing
programs and community contacts to provide treatment and referral services to inmates with
drug addiction programs. The employee in this class provides administrative supervision
through subordinate supervisors to social workers, correctional, medical, clerical and specialized
personnel providing immediate addictive control problems. Developing and evaluating drug
addiction control programs are of major significance to the work.
Work is performed under the general direction of an administrative superior.
Assignments require analytical thinking and are carried out in accordance with functional
precedents, practices and policies. The employee in this class has controlling impact on the
prison system's drug detoxification and treatment program.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
- Holds conferences with staff to solicit ideas for new programs and improve existing
programs; analyzes staff and resource requirements to implement addiction control programs;
writes proposals for new programs and evaluates them.
- Reviews statistical and progress reports and consults with subordinate supervisors and
prison administrators to evaluate the effectiveness of detoxification, therapeutic, counseling and
follow up activities; modifies programs to accomplish addictive disease treatment objectives.
- Coordinates prison drug control programs with various governmental and private agencies
involved in addiction control; meets with director of drug programs to inform them of prison
programs and to become familiar with outside resources available to inmates.
- Makes recommendations on budget proposals and expenditures for various drug control
and rehabilitation programs.
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- the principles and practices of the administration of a drug addiction treatment program.
- the principles, practices, procedures, methods, techniques, literature, legislation and new
developments in the field of drug addiction, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
- supervisory methods and techniques.
- drug treatment services available in the community.
- functions and resources of prisons as well as agencies providing assistance to individuals
with drug addiction problems.
ABILITY TO:
- analyze and evaluate the effectiveness and quality of addiction control services provided.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject

experience requirements as approved on 7/76.)
EDUCATION
- Completion of a master's degree with major course work in psychology, social work,
sociology, or public health at an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE
- Five years of social service experience providing services to drug addicts, two years of
which has been in an administrative capacity.
Or any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience which has included
a master's degree in an appropriate field as an educational minimum.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
