HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR II


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is technical work inspecting street and highway construction projects. An employee in this class is responsible for insuring compliance with specifications and standards, material testing and acceptance, and contract documentation. The employee may be assigned lower level inspectors to handle specific parts of the construction project. This class is distinguished from the next lower level class by the complexity and size of the project. Contact with employees of public utilities, private contractors and the general public is a significant aspect of the work.

Work is performed under the supervision of an engineering or inspectional supervisor. Assignments require evaluative thinking and are performed in accordance with standard inspection practices and general work instructions. The employee in this class provides inspectional services to insure that construction and repair projects are carried out according to departmental specifications and plans. Work involves some disagreeable aspects and some light physical effort.
