General Definition
- This is engineering related work directing, through subordinate supervisors, a large and diversified building maintenance program for a department comprised of multiple buildings. The employee is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive maintenance plan and for directing all maintenance staff activities through subordinate supervisors. Work includes reviewing capital program engineering plans and specifications for compliance with departmental design standards, goals and objectives and coordinating activities with project directors from the city’s Capital Program Office. Contact with consultants, contractors and engineers is a significant aspect of the work. Work is performed under the direction of an administrative superior.
Allocating Factors:

- The employee must supervise, through a subordinate Building Maintenance Superintendent, a large, diverse staff of building maintenance employees.
- The employee must function as a chief engineer, directing all maintenance activities for a large department with multiple building sites.
- The employee must develop and manage large capital projects.
