HIRING SERVICES ASSOCIATE I
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is public human resources work at the advanced trainee level in a hiring team in the City's central human resources agency. The employee in this class develops expertise in essential functions of public human resource work, including assessment and/or job design and compensation, developing proficiency in assigned functions. The employee is part of a hiring team and works under the supervision of a team leader or higher-level associate in handling human resources assignments of increasing complexity and difficulty. The employee establishes relationships with city administrators, union officials, employees, and the public as required to achieve individual and departmental objectives.
CORE STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:
- Develops working knowledge of city organizational structure.
- Develops working knowledge of the various hiring functions.
- Works under the supervision of a team leader or higher-level associate as required to complete assigned tasks.
- Actively acquires knowledge, abilities and competencies specified for performance at the Hiring Associate II level.
- Applies established procedures required to complete tasks associated with assessment and/or job design and compensation.
- Consistently meets department and professional quality standards when carrying out assigned tasks.
- Consistently fulfills production requirements and commitments to team leader, colleagues, and clients.
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- English grammar, spelling and oral communication.
- Interviewing methods and practices.
- Basic principles of selection, job analysis, and job design.
- Report writing methods and procedures.
- Standard computer software packages used for word processing, spreadsheets, and database management as well as Personnel Department specific information systems.
- Statistical concepts and techniques appropriate to assignment.
- Civil Service regulations related to hiring processes.

- Interpret results of standardized assessment tools, including tests.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for this class will reviewed based on training and experience requirements as approved on 4/99.)
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, industrial psychology, or a closely related field.
AND
GENERAL EXPERIENCE
- One year experience at the Hiring Associate Trainee level.
NOTE:
A master's degree in human resources, industrial psychology, or closely related
field may be substituted for the general experience listed above.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of City human resource positions.
