FLEET MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS MANAGER



GENERAL DEFINITION

This is senior management level information systems work directing a mixed-vendor, multi-network computing environment, planning and managing a specialized fleet management information systems network, a computerized fuel maintenance and dispensation system, and all other information systems, software and equipment for the City's centralized Fleet Management Office.

The employee in this class directs the activities of subordinate professional and technical staff, consultants and contracted support staff in the development, implementation, configuration, programming, maintenance and operation of the agency's various automated information systems and equipment. Work includes responsibility for management of client-server based multiple LAN/WAN networks located throughout various fleet management repair facilities and administrative offices, development and control of a multiple location, multiple vehicle automated system for the maintenance and dispensation of City-owned fuel, and the analysis of city-wide utilization data use to determine the appropriate municipal fleet size. The employee is responsible for ensuring system integrity and security, determining and providing all the requirements of an integrated computer network to meet agency, as well as City-wide information management needs, and ensuring proficiency for the operation and utilization of automated program applications. Work includes responsibility for the development and implementation of an information system which collects data used in determining and allocating amount and types of equipment required to ensure efficient management of the municipal fleet. Ensuring data information is accurate and readily available is a significant aspect of the work. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of the Office of Fleet Management.
