PHILADELPHIA – The Passyunk Avenue Drawbridge between 26th and 61st Streets will be closed temporarily to all traffic overnight Thursday, March 25th at 10:00 p.m. through Friday, March 26th at 4:00 a.m., announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams.  The traffic restrictions are in place to allow employees to safely make necessary repairs to the bridge.  Drivers and pedestrians should consider the following alternate detour routes to cross the Schuylkill River:

  • Westbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 26th Street.  The Platt Bridge (PA-291) is the nearest Schuylkill River crossing to the south.
  • Eastbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 61st Street. The Gray’s Ferry Avenue Bridge is the nearest Schuylkill River crossing to the north.

Traffic will not be permitted to flow between openings. No detour will be posted for the duration of the closure. Due to the nature of the project, the work has been scheduled during overnight hours to expedite the repairs and minimize the disruption to motorists.  Should work be completed more quickly than anticipated, the roadway will be reopened ahead of schedule.

All work will be completed, and traffic will be restored by 4:00 AM for the morning rush.  For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.  The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
