PHILADELPHIA – In observance of Labor Day, trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday, September 7. Residents with collections on Monday should set out their trash and recycling for collection on Tuesday, September 8. Trash and recycling collections will be one day behind schedule for the remainder of the week therefore residents should set their materials out the day following their regular day.

The Streets Department advises residents to continue to follow established setout limits and regulations and cautions that collection schedules have the possibility of being impacted by several factors including increased tonnage, staff attendance and severe weather.

Streets Department crews continue to work hard throughout the pandemic to return trash and recycling to a normal collection schedule. “I would like to thank all of our dedicated employees in the Department for helping us get through this crisis,” said Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams.

The Streets Department anticipates collections on Tuesday to begin on time and will provide additional updates throughout the week if scheduled collections become significantly delayed. Crews will continue to prioritize trash collections to mitigate the threat to health and safety where necessary.

To avoid collection delays for the week of September 7, residents are strongly encouraged to use Sanitation Convenience Centers, open Tuesday through Sunday this week, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Residents can utilize the six Centers located around the City to drop off trash and recycling at any time throughout the week. The Streets Department also launched a new initiative entitled: “Curb Your Waste” that offers tips for residents to manage their waste that will help reduce trash and litter, decrease delays and protect sanitation workers.
