As the year rolls on the City of Philadelphia’s Office of the City Representative (OCR) keeps on getting busier.

During the month of February our hard working team collaborated with event organizers and produced a wide range of events that highlighted Philadelphia’s diversity and aimed to support, inform, and empower Philadelphia’s residents.

In honor of Black History Month, the Office of the City Representative worked with the Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement (OBME) to host their first ever “Black Generational Wealth Series”.

The four-part weekly financial empowerment series aimed to empower black men with the information and resources needed to build and maintain generational wealth. Each seminar featured professional panelists with relevant experience and unique insight, covering topics such as financial literacy, engaging City resources, entrepreneurship and transferring wealth.

On February 26 the OCR collaborated with the Police Athletic League to host and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the annual PAL Day at City Hall.

This year’s event brought 40 local PAL students – two from each center in our City – and paired them with City of Philadelphia officials including Mayor Jim Kenney; newly appointed Police Commissioner, Danielle Outlaw and our very own City Representative Sheila Hess; who acted as mentors for the day teaching the students about the ins and outs of working with the City of Philadelphia and providing useful advice for achieving their professional goals.

As February came to an end, the Office of the City Representative also produced its second flag raising of the year as our local Dominican Republic community celebrated the 176th anniversary of their country’s independence on Thursday, February 27 at City Hall.

Our proud Dominican community was on hand to celebrate the raising of their blue, red, and white flag as they commemorated the victory of the Dominican War of Independence on February 27, 1844.

As we move into March, the Office of the City Representative continues to have a packed schedule.

On March 7 we are partnering with UNCF Philadelphia to host the 2020 Philadelphia UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball. The eighth annual signature fundraising event will be held at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown and all funds raised will go towards providing scholarships to help Philadelphia students attend college.

The Philadelphia Commission for Women will host its fourth annual Summit for Women and Girls on March 27. The event provides an opportunity for all Philadelphians to be inspired by the stories of women and girls who are national and local trailblazers in business, politics, education and healthcare. This year’s theme is Suffrage. Race. Power: Changing the Narrative.”

Our Flag Raising Ceremonies continue with Bangladesh and Greece on March 26 and March 27 respectively and the Philly Flag Day Celebration honoring the official flag of the City of Philadelphia will be held on March 28 at City Hall.

Relive some of the Office of the City Representative’s best moments from February and continue to follow our blog for updates on our upcoming events.
