PHILADELPHIA – The Passyunk Avenue Drawbridge between 26th and 61st Streets will be closed temporarily to all traffic overnight Thursday, January 23rd between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. Friday, announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. The traffic restrictions are in place to allow the drawbridge to be opened for routine cleaning and maintenance. Traffic will not be permitted to flow between openings. No detour will be posted for the duration of the closure. Drivers and pedestrians should consider the following alternate detour routes to cross the Schuylkill River:

  • Westbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 26th Street. The Platt Bridge (PA-291) as the nearest option to the south.
  • Eastbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will be stopped at 61st Street. The Gray’s Ferry Avenue Bridge is the nearest option to the north.

The temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely perform maintenance of the drawbridge. The work schedule is weather permitting and has been scheduled for overnight hours in order to expedite the repairs and minimize the disruption to motorists.

All work will be completed, and traffic will be restored by 4:00 a.m. for the morning rush. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
