PHILADELPHIA – The temporary overnight closure for the Passyunk Avenue Drawbridge between 26th and 61st Streets has been rescheduled for overnight Thursday, December 12 between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. Friday, December 13. The original closure was scheduled for Wednesday, December 11 to Thursday, December 12.

The traffic restrictions are in place to allow necessary repairs to the drawbridge. Traffic will not be permitted to flow between openings. No detour will be posted for the duration of the closure. Drivers and pedestrians should consider the following alternate detour routes to cross the Schuylkill River:

  • Westbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will end at 26th Street. The Platt Bridge (PA-291) is the nearest option to the south.
  • Eastbound Passyunk Avenue traffic will end at 61st Street. The Gray’s Ferry Avenue Bridge is the nearest option to the north.

The temporary closure will allow Streets Department employees to safely perform maintenance of the drawbridge. The work schedule is weather permitting and has been scheduled for overnight hours in order to expedite the repairs and minimize the disruption to motorists.

All work will be completed, and traffic will be restored by 4:00 a.m. for the morning rush. For the duration of the work, Streets Department crews will make every effort to minimize the inconvenience to affected drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The Streets Department thanks citizens in advance for their patience and cooperation during this project.
