PHILADELPHIA — In an effort to increase youth employment for the summer, and year-round, the Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement is partnering with and supporting Unity in the Community, Don’t Shoot, Moms Bonded By Grief, Ralph Brooks Basketball League, and God’s House to host “The Youth Job Fair 2019.” The job fair, scheduled for Saturday, June 1, will focus on youth, ages 16-24.

The event will take place at God’s House, located at 2730 Snyder Avenue, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Those interested in attending the job fair must RSVP using the online sign up form.

“The City is proud to be a part of this great community event focused on providing jobs and economic opportunity to our young people,” said Ajeenah Amir, Director for the Mayor’s Office of Public Engagement. “Some of the key recommendations laid out in the City’s action plan to reduce gun violence—The Philadelphia Roadmap to Safer Communities—included increasing access to paid employment for youth and young adults, as well as the need to target engagement to communities that are most impacted by violence. The organizations who stepped up to organize The Youth Job Fair 2019 for their community should be commended. Moving forward, I hope we’ll be able to partner with other groups on events like this in additional locations that have been identified as high-need by the Roadmap.”

“Southwest Philadelphia is one of the areas of the city that has been hit hardest by violence, but we are also a community that has proven our ability to overcome challenges by working together,” said Anton Moore, President and Founder of Unity in the Community. “Our organization utilizes a number of initiatives to help stem violence and reduce poverty in our neighborhoods, but we know that one of the most successful ways to tackle both of these issues is by connecting people with a job.”

More than a dozen local and national employers will take part in The Youth Job Fair 2019 to provide information about available opportunities. Some will even accept applications and complete interviews on site. Participating employers include:

  • Aramark

  • City of Philadelphia

  • Cricket

  • Diversified Community Services

  • Forman Mills

  • Fresh Grocer

  • HMS Host

  • Home Depot

  • Kicks USA

  • Rita’s

  • Semper Utilities

Employers interested in joining the job fair can contact Anton Moore at unityhelp12@gmail.com.

“I am thrilled that one of my first major activities in my role as the Director for the Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement is to partner with so many amazing community organizations on an event that will bring economic opportunity to our young residents. This weekend’s job fair will be a jumping off point for more collaboration between my Office and the groups who are on the ground in Philadelphia’s neighborhoods working to expand opportunity and reduce violence,” added Eric Westbrook, Director for the Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement.

Community-based organizations and residents are encouraged to share information about The Youth Job Fair 2019 and the RSVP link with the young people they know and serve.
