Spring has sprung and our Community Schools are in full bloom with tons of free, and fun events happening throughout the month near you!

Community Schools serve students and communities throughout the city year-round with free resources for Philadelphians including nutritious food, job training, ESL and adult education classes, afterschool programs, and more.

Read on to learn what’s happening at Community Schools in May!

Throughout the month

When: Every Tuesday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Alain Locke School

Stop by for free, healthy groceries! This pop-up pantry is run by the People’s Emergency Center and features perishable and nonperishable food. Drexel’s Eat Right Philly program hosts cooking demonstrations.

When: Every Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where: Murrell Dobbins High School

Pick up free, fresh fruits and vegetables. This weekly produce stand is operated by Philabundance and held in front of the school, weather pending.

When: Wednesday, May 1, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: Logan Elementary School

Pick up free, fresh fruits and vegetables provided by Philabundance. This event is held outside of the school, weather permitting.

Where: Southwark School

Stop by and shop for affordable fruits and vegetables provided by the Common Market. Please note: this market is cash-only.

When: Saturday, May 4, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Where: Southwark School

Roll into the month at Southwark’s Rolling Rodeo! Children under the age of 12 are invited to attend on bikes, scooters, roller skates, or anything with wheels. The Rodeo will includes games, an obstacle course, and a decoration station for bikes and scooters. South Philly Bikes will provide free safety checks and bicycle adjustments.

Where: Southwark School

Southwark is the place to be on May 4. Enjoy food and activities showcasing one of many cultures that are part of the Southwark community at the annual Indonesian Festival!

Where: Edward Gideon Elementary

Mark your calendars! First Mondays at Gideon are full of fun and resources that you won’t want to miss. This free monthly resource fair is open to all. Join for the clothing closet, benefits access, adult education, job opportunities, and more.

Join the Dobbins community and celebrate the end of another amazing school year. Visit the annual Keystone Kickoff Block Party for free food, resources, and fun activities at Dobbins’ annual block party.

Come out to the next Community Saturday at William Cramp! Join and shop for professional clothing, help us design the school’s new mural, and more!

Find out about the healthy resources available to you by stopping by Edmonds for the school’s second annual Community Health Fair! This event is free and open to all and will include dental screenings, healthy cooking demonstrations, and more.

Come out for a fun and interactive Family Paint with a Twist: Blossom Like a Butterfly activity hosted by Mill Creek Community Partnership’s Fine Art Through Our Eyes (FATOE) Community Arts Initiative. No previous painting experience needed, only a creative heart! Ages 6 and up are welcome to attend.

Looking for tips to better support your child’s learning? Learn more about the current math curriculum to help your child succeed over the summer and next year.

Attend the School District of Philadelphia’s Family Academy class: P.L.A.N. Parents Lead and Read Math. Each child will get a book, creative art and math activities to take home!

Want to help your child learn new ways to socialize with their peers? Attend the School District of Philadelphia’s Family Academy’s Raising Confident Children class at Edmonds.

Learn how to develop household routines that promote children’s ability to socialize with others, engage in learning, and establish their own routines.
