PHILADELPHIA – Members of the Philadelphia legal community are invited to participate at the next Take Action Philly (TAP) sponsored event on April 18, 2019 to discuss climate change and the role of lawyers in advancing solutions. The Third National Conference of Lawyers Committed to Addressing the Climate Emergency will be held at Temple University Beasley School of Law, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 18.
This is the third year in a row for this National Conference of Lawyers, and the first time ever that TAP has participated in this event. This year’s conference will feature leading legal experts addressing the most important aspects of the climate crisis and will address ways lawyers can work to make a difference.
Event speakers include Washington Governor and Democratic Presidential nominee, Jay Inslee; U.S. Senator Ed Markey (MA); U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch (FL); and noted climate scientist, Penn State Professor Michael Mann. Staff from the City of Philadelphia’s Law Department and Office of Sustainability will also be participating in the program.
The Philadelphia Bar Association has been a partner of all three National Conferences. In June 2014, it passed a resolution that called on government and, on all people, including “all associations of legal professionals” and “all lawyers” to “use the powers at their disposal to address global climate change,” and to promote laws to “reduce the use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions.”
The Philadelphia conference will be held at Temple University Beasley School of Law, Klein Building, Moot Court Room, 1719 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122. For Directions & Parking, visit: https://www.law.temple.edu/resources/directions/.
This is a free event, but registration is required. To register, visit www.calltothebar.org.
About Take Action Philly (TAP)
The Philadelphia Bar Association, with the support of the City of Philadelphia, the private bar, and several non-profit legal aid organizations, formed Take Action Philly (TAP) as an initiative uniting lawyers, government, community organizations and residents to offer information and assistance. Through this effort, TAP is convening a series of public discussions to educate Philadelphians about the anticipated impact of federal and state policy decisions and to identify an action plan for lawyers to provide legal representation and the public to get involved.
